Is it true that not using shampoo is good for curly hair?

But won't it not clean it????????Is it true that not using shampoo is good for curly hair?
Many people with very curly hair use conditioner to wash their hair (co-washing, or conditioner washing). This gets the hair clean, but it does not remove products that have silicones in them; hard water, and other stuff. Also, after a while the conditioner will start to cause build-up. So, you have to either clarify your hair or use shampoo once in a while to get your hair completely clean. Instead of shampoo some people will use homemade products like baking soda and apple cider to clarify the hair, so they can remove the build-up from the co-washing as well as the particles that don't get removed when co-washing. Others will shampoo their hair a few times a months to get it completely clean. The reason for co-washing is because very curly hair is usually very dry and most shampoos only make it dryer. If you co-wash with a moisturizing conditioner then you can keep a healthy balance of your hair's natural oils. You can also start using an organic shampoo that does not contain SLS (a drying agent in most shampoos), using something that's organic will not dry out curly hair as much.

HTH. Is it true that not using shampoo is good for curly hair?
there is the belief that in order to get your hair clean, you have to use shampoo. you really don't. you can actually use conditioners to clean your hair. this is called the no poo method. it's a pretty common practice with many curly heads. it's kind of like how some people use plain baking soda to brush their teeth vs. using toothpaste. they still get clean without the suds.

having said that, not all shampoos are bad. it depends on the ingredients. because curly hair can be drier than straight hair (since the natural oils have a harder time moving down the hair shaft), it's important to make sure that you use a shampoo that doesn't contain harsh detergents like sodium laureth sulfate (SLS) and ammonium laryl sulfate (ALS).

some brands that come to mind are:

hope this helps!

What are you talking about? Of course, shampoo is for cleaning. That's why you use it. If you want to make your hair curly, you need to have it clean. Any dirt or grease on it will make it hang down and heavy, and go straighter.

But of course, you only use shampoo when your hair needs cleaning. There's no point in using it if your hair is not dirty!
NO... please DO!

Use shampoo girl!!! - and deoderant... and toothpaste
